Jin Young Kim is a 3rd year Master of Divinity Student at Harvard Divinity School working on a field education project titled "Concern for poverty and the practices of Charity in Early Pauline Communities," project supervised by Marian Simion.
Project Abstract: We live in a world where the market economic system not only dominates the global interaction, but it is also generally credited to be the inevitable and most effective configuration of human economic activities. As this often creates and/or maintains economic disparity, the question is where does the issue of poverty stand? In a competitive and profit based society, how do people develop and/or recognize the responsibility for the poor, and participate in charitable activities? My goal is to answer these questions through an analysis of Paul's discussion on the Jerusalem collection vis-a-vis challenges identifiable within the contemporary South Korean society.
